Jeane Napoles is in her twenties. She is a keen investor in real estate and bought her first condo when she was 21, the same age as when I bought mine. And last year she bought herself a farm in Bayambang. She even has her own blog where she writes about her life experiences. Ms. Napoles appears to be the girl version of me 🙂 I hope we can meet each other some day and have a conversation about our investments and goals 😀
The only difference between us is she’s very open about her personal life on her blog whereas I don’t share as much on mine. Discretion is not her strongest characteristic. She seems to be your average girl who likes to hang out with friends, go clubbing, and enjoys traveling. And like other girls she sometimes has trouble deciding what to wear, especially when she’s going to the Grammy’s. Yes! She’s well connected too. Good for her 😀
Unfortunately the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) which is the IRS or CRA of the Philippines is after her for tax evasion. Uh oh. If it can happen to her, maybe it can happen to me as well (>_<) The BIR commissioner wants to know where Ms. Napoles got the money from to buy her condo. I forgot to mention earlier in this article that the condo she bought is one of the highly coveted residences at the Ritz-Carlton luxury hotel, in Los Angeles, CA, where each unit is worth about $1,300,000 😯
But the story gets worse because her mother, Janet, is allegedly the woman behind a $220 million dollar government scandal. The public funds she was entrusted with was meant for an assistance program that funds public roads, and benefit low income families. But instead all that money that the Filipino citizens worked hard for went into personal bank accounts, real estate, her daughter’s spending sprees, and more. A little discretion could have done her well. But now Janet faces the possibility of going to jail.
Meanwhile the BIR has hit young Jeane with a tax bill of $750,000 inclusive of surcharges and fees for taxable years 2011 and 2012. Great googalee moogalee! 😯 First she finds out her mother might be incarcerated, and now she’s served with this gigantic tax bill. Those greedy government bureaucrats eh 😛 Why can’t they just leave the hardworking citizens alone? What kind of draconian world do we live in when the tax authorities can become suspicious of an unobjectionable girl like Ms. Napoles just because she has a Porsche Cayenne, a Porsche Boxter, fancy jewelry, real estate properties, expensive watches, clothing, and shoes. I mean can’t the poor girl just catch a break 😛
Tip of the day: Use discretion online and in public.
Don’t reveal your financial situation on the internet, especially if you or your family is involved with tax payer’s money. But if you are going to flaunt your lavish lifestyle for other people to see, create an online pseudonym and post anonymously.

One thing’s for sure, if my family was ever involved in government anything I wouldn’t be blogging under my real name. Even with that in mind, I don’t blog under my real name but that’s for career reasons, as I don’t want to have my fun hobby life interfere with my work life.

Yeah, it’s probably not a good thing to show the government how much money you have. She has met some pretty big celebrities like Justin Bieber, Tom Felton, Justin Timberlake, and other interesting people. At her birthday party she even held her own private fashion show. Even if someone paid me I would not want to have that kind of attention because I don’t want to be known for having money lol.
Greed pure and simple. Very sad really because that kind of thing is rampant. But she is def. not the sharpest tool in the shed, eh?

I have never seen so many Thumbs Down on a Youtube video before lol. Pretty much everyone and their cats are critical of her opulent lifestyle. I can’t understand what the comments are saying but I bet most of them are patronizing or condescending. In a country where political corruption is a major issue, I’m not surprised by the people’s anger. At the same time however, I kind of feel sorry for her because of the way she was brought up. Her parents also flaunt their money around publicly which has landed her mom with embezzlement charges. Like mother like daughter I guess 😕 But there are lots of other wealthy family out there that actually values discretion.

One would hope so 🙂 but in this family’s particular face maybe the regulators were “convinced” to look the other way lol. Alas, the chickens have come home to roost and they are now facing the consequences. Good thing we don’t have scandals like this in Canada. Our public figures get into trouble sometimes, but most are minor offenses compared to pocketing hundreds of millions of dollars.
A few friends know about my blog… that’s why I havent really blogged lately about my stocks. I feel like I’m revealing too much sometimes. Oh wells. I just do it for fun though for my own reference.
What I do is post only some of your stocks or a specific account like the TFSA. So people don’t have access to my entire portfolio, but just a part of it.

It’s funny how you can go to jail longer for tax evasion then killing someone. Governments sure like their money, which is why I invest with my TFSA as much as possible!
Exactly, most people should max out their TFSAs every year if they can! The irony of imprisoning someone for owing taxes is that person will cost even more tax dollars to live in jail. In Canada at least, the cost of keeping a male inmate in prison rose from $88,067 per year in 2006 to $109,699 in 2009, according to the most recent data from Corrections and Conditional Release Statistical Overview.
Very good post. I like to blog anonymously because (1) I might say something stupid and lose my job over it, (2) there’s creepy out there, and (3) unless I’m trying to brand my blog to earn money and make “appearances” later in life, there is no real reason any names are really required.
All valid reason 🙂 Even some authors who write books use pseudonyms like when Susan Hinton wrote The Outsider she chose to call herself S.E. instead of her first and middle name because she didn’t want readers to know she’s a woman. She wrote that novel when she was 16, and this was back in the 1960’s when the world was a very different place.
