Grumpy Cat is a Wealthy Cat
The internet is the best thing to have happened to cats since the ancient Egyptians. The most popular cat in the world right meow is none other than Tardar Sauce. Her first picture was uploaded to the social news site Reddit in 2012. Denizens of the web quickly fell in love with her distinctive expression. She was given the label Grumpy Cat and variations of her pictures, often with sarcastic captions, spread all across the web and turned her into a popular internet meme.
Two years since her internet debut, Tardar Sauce has now made over $114,000,000, according to the CBC. That is more money than most “A” list Hollywood actors including Brad Pitt, and top athletes including Christiano Ronaldo. There is even a Grumpy Cat Christmas themed movie, Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever, in which she’s voiced by Aubrey Plaza, who is best known for playing April from NBC’s comedy, Parks and Recreation.

Achievements and Recognition
Tardar Sauce has appeared on Good Morning America, The Bachelorette, American Idol, WWE, as well as many other media outlets, including Forbes and Rolling Stones. Thankfully this millionaire megastar has her own “internet cat” agent to schedule all her photo shoots and public appearances. Grumpy Cat’s Facebook page has over 7 million “Likes.” She was named 2012’s most influential cat by MSNBC, and won a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2013 Friskies. There is even a book written about her called Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book, and it debuted at #7 on the New York Times Best Seller list. 😯
Tabatha Bundesen is Tardar Sauce’s owner and told the press: “I was able to quit my job as a waitress within days of her first appearance on social media, and the phone simply hasn’t stopped ringing since. What she’s achieved in such a short time is unimaginable.”
Here on freedom 35 blog we’re always discovering clever new ways to reach financial independence and quit our day jobs, just like Grumpy Cat’s owner. I’m not a cat owner myself but I have blogging friends like Alicia, Amanda, Jeremy, and Michelle, who all have feline pets. I wonder if any of them have plans to monetize their pets. 🙂 If you happen to have a cat as well then you might be interested in this apt book titled “How to Make Your Cat an Internet Celebrity: A Guide to Financial Freedom.”
Who knew cats could be such a lucrative investment? A few years ago if I were offered to adopt a cat that had been born with feline dwarfism and an underbite I would have said no thank you. But now I realize that the best opportunities can sometimes show up in the most unlikely places. It’s all about the marketing, crowd appeal, and turning a flaw into a one-of-a-kind advantage. 😉

Random Useless Fact:
An internet meme is a piece of media which spreads, often as mimicry of pop culture, from person to person on the web. Below is a compilation of the Grumpy Cat meme.
I guess “smelly cat” from Friends in the 90s was the go to cat of the decade. I have to admit, some of those captions are very cynical, funny and true.
I think people can relate to the captions because they’re true. And it’s funny because it’s a grumpy cat saying those mean things. 🙂 I wonder what all the cast members of Friends are doing now.
I’m really now
I love Grumpy Cat! I knew she was raking in the money but that number is insane!
A lot of women these days are making big money off their pussy…
Oh wait 😕
Well, you know what I mean. 😛
Oh dear…. HA!
Wow, unbelievable how much that cat has made! That’s insane. I’ve thought about doing a blog for Maggie because she has to be the weirdest, spastic cat around. And she’s extremely frugal…she hates expensive toys…go figure.
Your cat sounds like a keeper. 😉 I hope she doesn’t like expensive cat food either.
Grumpy cat is cute 🙂 And the memes are hilarious. Once you go viral, you’re on the map and it can take off from there. Maybe you can make something out of your microscopic organisms. Or you can even design a cute animated character… how about Bye Kitty!! I can collaborate with ya and go to the top!!
Bye Kitty, haha that’s a good name. 🙂 Great idea about using my microscope. I can draw eyes over pictures of my tiny critters.
My cats aren’t as unique-looking as Grumpy Cat, so I don’t think I’ll be able to make $114 million. That said, I do have one in the works… right now you’ll just have to settle for my instagram account 😛 I have 2 other websites in the works before the cats make get their own site.
Also, if you have any clever domain names, I’d love to hear them 🙂
I’ll let you know if I can think of any names. You sound very busy these days, running multiple sites and working full time. 🙂
I can’t believe Grumpy Cat has made that much money already! Should totally make our cat famous somehow…
Have you heard of cat breading? You should totally bread your cat. It might turn out to be hilarious 😀
Its so odd to see what hits and what misses with the internet. Hundreds of other ideas fizzled and grumpy cat was in the right place at the right time. Just crazy
Yup. Marnie the dog is another pet made famous by the internet and happenstance. Although she hadn’t had the success of Grumpy Cat. Marnie has over 100K followers on Twitter and some licensed merchandise. Overall I think Marnie has made between $100,000 to $500,000 so far in her career. The big thing is marketing. If the owner can create buzz and interest in his or her pet then they stand to gain more popularity and profits. You never know what’s going to be the next big thing tomorrow.
[…] that’s always showing up on Reddit and annoying you? Turns out that’s one rich cat. Freedom 35 blog has the deets. If you’re upset about Kim Kardashian’s wealth for doing not a whole lot at all, that […]
I wish my cats made money! Or at least cleaned up after themselves? 😀
I’m playing this game on my phone where you put out food and toys to attract cats to your yard lol.
Hay I was thinking that you can get your love life really now
Lorenzo Brown and the other is not really a but to be able to do it
